Mark Your Calendar

Jesus' brother, James, wrote this about the power of prayer, "The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
Elijah was a human being, even as we are.  He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.  Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops." - James 5:16b-18

Among the things that the earliest Christians were committed to, one of the top commitments on their list was prayer (Acts 2:42).

When I answered the call into pastoral ministry in 2013, I began praying for clarity in regards to the next step.  I owned my own business at the time and worked part-time as the AV Director at Mooresville First UMC.  After about a year going through the pastoral candidacy process, I became licensed in July of 2014.  God then made it clear to me that it was time to close my business.  In August I closed the company to make myself available for full-time pastoral ministry, then began praying again for God to make it clear what the next step needed to be.  In September of 2014 I felt led to search for a church looking for a specific kind of pastor to focus on certain areas of ministry within the church.  Thankfully, I found Avon UMC.  I began the interview process that month and began serving on staff at the church as the Connections Pastor on December 1, 2014.

I believe in the power of prayer.  What about you?

The key verses for the Wave are Psalm 42:7-8.  With that in mind, we are committed to praying for the NEW ministry God has called us to launch on the 7th and 8th of each month.  On the 7th, we're praying that God will sweep through our church to empty us of anything and everything preventing us from being the church we're called to be.  On the 8th we're praying for God to use us to reach young adults who are disconnected from God and church.

Please mark your calendar and pray with us each month on the 7th and 8th.  The prayers of God's people are powerful!  Our prayers are powerful because our God is powerful.

I believe a sweeping Wave of God's power and lives being transformed is on the horizon here in Avon.  May God use us to make NEW disciples of Jesus Christ and transform the world.  Amen.
